A petition has been submitted to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, calling for an investigation into allegations that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, repeatedly travelled with a passenger who allegedly used false identities on domestic flights.
The petition, dated July 12, 2026, was also copied to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Written by an individual who identified himself as a concerned employee in Nigeria’s aviation industry, the petition urged authorities to investigate what it described as repeated breaches of aviation security, regulatory compliance and passenger identification procedures.
According to the petitioner, the passenger, identified as one of Obi’s media aides, had previously been barred from flying with Air Peace over alleged misconduct and repeated confrontations at airports.
The petition alleged that despite the ban, the passenger continued to travel on the airline using different names, with Obi allegedly facilitating the arrangement on several occasions.
It further claimed that the alleged actions undermined aviation security measures and prevented the airline from enforcing its safety and identification procedures.
The petitioner also alleged that airport personnel were repeatedly obstructed from carrying out proper identity verification whenever Obi travelled with the passenger.
According to the petition, evidence, including flight tickets and Passenger Name Records (PNRs), was attached to support the allegations.
As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the allegations, while the Ministry of Aviation, the NCAA and the EFCC have yet to comment on or announce any investigation into the petition.
