The self-proclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, failed to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday for his scheduled arraignment over alleged certificate forgery, fraud and impersonation.
Adeyemi is expected to take his plea before Justice Mohammed Umar on an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud and impersonation. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was filed by the Nigeria Police on November 27, 2025.
Despite the matter being listed for hearing, the defendant was absent when the case was called.
The prosecution has lined up several witnesses, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside Paul Emmanuel, Jeremiah Imoukhede and Ituah Sylvester. Other witnesses include officials from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Adeyemi’s absence comes a day after he stated in a television interview that he had stayed out of the public eye because of alleged threats to his life.
He denied claims that he was evading law enforcement agencies investigating the alleged PFIPC fraud and maintained that he had not gone into hiding.
The defendant also repeated his allegation that he paid ₦400 million through a proxy to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to facilitate his appointment as Director-General of the disputed council.
According to Adeyemi, the individuals from whom he borrowed the money have since reported him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court is expected to determine the next step in the matter following the defendant’s failure to appear for arraignment.
