Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed his desire to return to school and obtain a university degree after retiring from professional football, describing education as one of his personal ambitions beyond the sport.
The Galatasaray forward made the disclosure during an interview, where he reflected on the importance of lifelong learning and the lessons he has gained through life experiences.
Osimhen said while formal education provided a foundation, many valuable lessons have come from his journey as a professional footballer.
“As an adult, not everything I learned in school. There are some kinds of life lessons you encounter through life’s journey,” he said.
The 27-year-old noted that a football career is relatively short, making it essential for players to prepare for life after retirement.
“For me, it would be an amazing thing to also try to get a degree, which I’m still considering because football, you won’t play for so long, probably 20 or 25 years, and then you’re done,” he stated.
Osimhen explained that although he has other plans and opportunities to rely on after his playing career, earning a university degree would represent a significant personal achievement and serve as an inspiration to younger people.
“In as much as I have a lot of things to fall back to when I’m done, I think it’s still important for me to set an example, to set a standard for the younger generation,” he added.
The former African Footballer of the Year also encouraged young people who had to suspend their education due to financial or personal challenges not to abandon their academic aspirations.
According to him, education remains accessible regardless of age or circumstance, urging those who dropped out of school to consider returning when the opportunity arises.
“Even though you dropped out due to some kind of challenges you have, it’s something you can always go back to. School is always there,” Osimhen said.
