The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has called on the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to strengthen security in communities bordering the Old Oyo National Park to prevent a recurrence of recent kidnapping incidents.

The monarch made the appeal following the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers from communities in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026. The victims were later rescued after spending days in captivity.

Oba Ladoja noted that the Old Oyo National Park has long posed security challenges for neighbouring communities and stressed the need for proactive measures to protect residents from criminal activities.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the former Oyo State governor commended the successful rescue of the abducted victims, describing it as a significant achievement by the authorities.

He urged both the federal and state governments to sustain the momentum by deploying adequate security personnel and surveillance to all communities sharing boundaries with the national park.

According to the traditional ruler, improving security around the park is essential to preventing further attacks and restoring confidence among residents.

Oba Ladoja also called on the government to provide comprehensive rehabilitation and support for the rescued victims to aid their recovery from the traumatic experience.
