The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area have regained their freedom.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command described the reports as false, misleading and without any factual basis.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that no such development had occurred and urged members of the public to disregard the claims.
According to the Command, coordinated rescue operations remain ongoing, with security agencies continuing efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
The police assured residents and affected families that security operatives are deploying all available resources to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers, reunite them with their families and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The Command warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that false reports could create unnecessary panic, heighten public anxiety and undermine ongoing security operations.
Residents were advised to rely solely on information released through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies.
The police further called on members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of ongoing rescue efforts, while reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safe return of all victims.
The Command added that timely updates would be provided as developments unfold.
