The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), North-East Zone (Zone E), has directed all its structures across the region to embark on a three-day peaceful solidarity demonstration following the abduction of 42 students from Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The directive was issued by the Zonal Coordinator of NANS Zone E, Muazu Hina, in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to the association, the demonstrations will be held simultaneously across the six North-East states of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba from June 5 to June 7, 2026.
Hina said the protest is aimed at drawing national attention to the plight of the abducted students, expressing solidarity with their families and urging the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their safe release.
He also called on authorities to strengthen security measures in educational institutions nationwide to protect students and ensure schools remain safe environments for learning.
The NANS coordinator directed all zonal and campus structures, including Joint Campus Committee (JCC) leadership, Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives, delegates and stakeholders, to mobilise responsibly and ensure the demonstrations remain peaceful and lawful.
The abduction has renewed concerns about the security of schools in Nigeria’s North-East, a region that has experienced repeated attacks on educational institutions over the years.
Stakeholders have continued to advocate stronger security measures to prevent future incidents and guarantee uninterrupted access to education.
As preparations for the demonstrations continue, NANS said students across the region would use the platform to demand the safe return of the abducted students and call for renewed commitment to securing schools across the country.
