NIS Warns Nigerians Against Travelling Without Valid Documents

The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned Nigerians against attempting to travel out of the country without valid travel documents, describing the act as illegal and dangerous.

In a public advisory issued on Monday, the Service stressed that all international travel must be done with a valid passport, visa where necessary, and other approved immigration documents.

The agency noted that bypassing official procedures or using illegal border routes violates Nigerian immigration laws and could expose travellers to serious risks.

The NIS also expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates that deceive Nigerians, especially youths, with fake promises of jobs, education, and better opportunities abroad.

According to the Service, many victims of such schemes often end up in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.

The agency warned that no genuine travel or migration process operates outside official immigration channels or approved border posts.

It advised Nigerians to verify all travel and recruitment opportunities through official platforms and avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.

The Service further urged members of the public to report suspicious migration activities to the nearest Immigration office or relevant security agencies.

Reaffirming its commitment to border security, the NIS said it remains focused on protecting Nigerians from illegal migration networks and other forms of exploitation.
