The Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has expressed strong support for Governor Seyi Makinde, declaring that he possesses the leadership qualities, experience, and vision required to reposition Nigeria and place the country on the path of sustainable development.
The council chairmen made the declaration following Makinde’s official announcement of his intention to contest the presidency ahead of the 2027 general election. According to the forum, the governor’s decision was inspired by his desire to build a better Nigeria and provide a leadership style focused on national unity, economic growth, and improved welfare for citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, the Chairman of the body, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, alongside the Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, stated that the current challenges confronting the country require a leader with proven administrative competence, grassroots connection, and the political will to deliver meaningful reforms.
The chairmen argued that many Nigerians have become frustrated with the present state of the nation due to rising economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and what they described as ineffective governance. They maintained that Makinde’s track record in Oyo State has shown that he understands the needs of the people and has the capacity to deliver people-oriented policies capable of improving lives.
According to the forum, Makinde has consistently demonstrated transparency, accountability, and commitment to good governance since assuming office as governor. They noted that his administration has recorded achievements in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic expansion.
The council bosses further described Makinde as a leader with a human-centred approach to governance, stressing that his style of leadership has continued to earn him the trust and confidence of residents across Oyo State.
They added that Nigeria requires a leader who can unite citizens across ethnic, religious, and political divides while also restoring public confidence in governance and democratic institutions.
The forum urged Nigerians both within the country and in the diaspora to rally support for Makinde’s presidential ambition, expressing confidence that his emergence would usher in a new era of development, inclusiveness, and national progress.
They also stated that Makinde’s governance model in Oyo State reflects his readiness for higher national responsibility, insisting that his experience in public administration and commitment to service make him a strong contender for the presidency.
The chairmen reaffirmed their loyalty and support for the governor, pledging to mobilise support at the grassroots level in order to ensure the success of his political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
