Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday during a rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.
The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is also expected to feature the unveiling of a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State.
The development follows recent resignations by several political officeholders from the PDP to the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those expected to emerge on the APM platform are former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, who is tipped as the party’s governorship candidate, alongside Stanley Olajide, Olufemi Ajadi and Shina Peller as senatorial candidates.
Candidates for the House of Representatives and House of Assembly are also expected to be unveiled during the rally.
Reports indicate that the event will be preceded by the signing of an alliance agreement between leaders of the APM and the faction of the PDP led by Taminu Turaki.
Preparations for the rally have intensified, with party leaders and supporters from both political camps expected to converge on Ibadan ahead of the event.
Although Governor Makinde has yet to officially announce his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, support groups and political associates have continued to mount pressure on him to join the race.
Political observers say ongoing consultations and grassroots mobilisation efforts are part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening Makinde’s political influence within the national landscape ahead of 2027.
Earlier in January 2026, Makinde reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, where he advocated a bipartisan approach to governance, particularly on issues relating to security and poverty reduction.
