Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State governorship race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jandor announced his decision on Thursday while addressing supporters and members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement at Liberty House in Ikeja, citing recent developments within the party.
His withdrawal follows the endorsement of the state’s Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the decision aligns with his earlier commitment to respect the direction of the party leadership.
“Within hours after I purchased my nomination forms, there were developments, including a meeting involving the President and the Deputy Governor. It was subsequently made known that the President had endorsed Dr. Obafemi Hamzat,” he said.
“Based on my earlier position that I will align with the direction of the President, I have decided to withdraw from the race.”
Jandor urged his supporters to remain calm and respect internal party processes, emphasising the need for unity and discipline within the APC.
He described his withdrawal as a demonstration of loyalty to the party and confidence in its internal democratic structure, while also reaffirming his support for President Tinubu.
The former aspirant expressed appreciation to party leaders in Lagos State for their guidance, noting that his decision came shortly after he had obtained his nomination and expression of interest forms.
Meanwhile, Hamzat is said to have secured backing from key party stakeholders, including the Governance Advisory Council, a major decision-making body within the APC in Lagos.
