The Senate has commenced the screening of Muttaqha Rabe Darma for appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Darma appeared before lawmakers in the chamber on Thursday, where he was formally introduced and began responding to questions from senators as part of the confirmation process.

His nomination followed a request by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who on Wednesday asked the Senate to screen and confirm him for a ministerial position.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the President’s communication on the floor and subsequently referred it to the Committee of the Whole for consideration, with a directive to report back as soon as possible.

The screening forms part of the constitutional process required before a ministerial nominee can be officially appointed into the Federal Executive Council.

Further details are expected as the screening progresses.
