The Cross River State Government has dismissed reports claiming the emergence of 10 new COVID-19 cases, describing the information as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement issued in Calabar, the Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, clarified that as of April 23, 2026, the state has recorded only one confirmed case of COVID-19.

According to him, the single confirmed case involves a foreign national currently receiving treatment and responding well.

Ayuk explained that the 10 individuals mentioned in the earlier report are not new cases but contacts traced from the confirmed patient. He noted that contact tracing is a routine public health measure aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

He further stated that the individuals are not symptomatic and do not meet the criteria for suspected cases. They have, however, been placed under home isolation as a precautionary step and are being monitored daily by health officials.

The commissioner emphasised that the isolation should not be misconstrued as evidence of additional infections, reiterating that no new confirmed or suspected cases have been recorded in the state.

He urged residents to disregard misinformation and rely on official communication from health authorities, while encouraging continued adherence to preventive measures to safeguard public health.

The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and timely updates on health-related developments.
