A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has released its timetable and fee structure for aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to details made public by the faction’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, the cost of contesting for key political offices has been clearly outlined, with presidential aspirants expected to pay a total of ₦51 million, while governorship aspirants will pay ₦21 million.

The breakdown indicates that all aspirants are required to first obtain an expression of interest form priced at ₦1 million, while the nomination fees differ depending on the office being contested. Those seeking seats in State Houses of Assembly are to pay ₦2 million for nomination, candidates for the House of Representatives ₦3 million, and senatorial aspirants ₦5 million. Governorship hopefuls are to pay ₦20 million as nomination fee, while those aiming for the presidency will pay ₦50 million, bringing their total cost to ₦51 million when combined with the expression of interest fee.

The timetable outlines a tight schedule for the electoral process within the faction. The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms is set to commence on April 27 and will run through May 4. Aspirants are expected to submit their completed forms on or before May 9.

Screening exercises for aspirants across various positions have also been scheduled. Those vying for State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, and governorship positions will undergo screening on May 11, while presidential aspirants are slated for screening on May 12.

Primary elections for the various offices will follow shortly after. The presidential primary has been fixed for May 18, while governorship primaries are scheduled for May 27. Elections for the House of Representatives will take place on May 21, with senatorial primaries holding on May 23. Primaries for State Houses of Assembly are expected to be conducted between May 21 and May 24.

The faction also disclosed that all appeals arising from the primaries are expected to be concluded by May 30, ensuring that candidates emerge in time for subsequent electoral processes.

In a notable development, the faction announced a concession for female aspirants, stating that women interested in contesting for any of the available positions will only be required to pay for the expression of interest form, effectively waiving the nomination fees. This move is seen as an effort to encourage greater female participation in the political process.

The release of the timetable and fee structure comes amid ongoing internal challenges within the party, which has seen the emergence of parallel leadership structures and competing interests. Despite these issues, the faction has proceeded with its plans, signaling its determination to organise its own electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.

As preparations continue, attention is expected to focus on how the internal dynamics within the party will evolve and the implications for its overall participation in the forthcoming general elections.
