The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alli made the announcement during a well-attended gathering in Yemetu, located in Ibadan North Local Government Area, where party members, supporters, and political associates converged to witness the declaration. He explained that his decision to join the governorship race came after extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters across different parts of the state.
Addressing the audience, the lawmaker emphasised that his ambition goes beyond personal interest, describing it as a call to serve and contribute meaningfully to the development of Oyo State. He appealed for widespread support from party members at all levels, stressing the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving electoral success.
Alli highlighted his track record in public service, noting that his experience in governance has prepared him for the responsibilities of leading the state. He recalled his time as Chief of Staff to former governor Rashidi Ladoja, now the Olubadan of Ibadanland, where he played a key role in coordinating government activities and ensuring effective policy implementation.
He further pointed to his current role in the Senate, where he said he has remained committed to representing the interests of his constituents through legislation, advocacy, and development-focused interventions aimed at improving livelihoods.
Outlining his vision for the state, Alli stated that his administration, if elected, would prioritise critical sectors such as education, security, and economic development. He also expressed his intention to address existing governance challenges and introduce policies that would drive sustainable growth and enhance the well-being of residents.
The senator used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to accountability and service, describing himself as a dedicated public servant who has consistently worked in the interest of the people. He assured supporters that he would maintain the same level of dedication and transparency if given the mandate to govern the state.
The declaration event drew participation from party faithful and supporters across Oyo State, reflecting growing political momentum ahead of the 2027 election. Notably, leaders of the APC in the Ibarapa zone had earlier thrown their weight behind Alli’s ambition, endorsing him as their preferred candidate following a prior engagement with the aspirant.
With his official entry into the race, political activities within the state are expected to intensify as parties and aspirants begin early positioning ahead of the next governorship election.
