Governor Chukwuma Soludo has ordered the suspension of civil servants absent from duty as of 10:00 a.m. following a surprise visit to the state secretariat in Awka.

Soludo issued the directive after carrying out an unscheduled inspection of ministries and departments to assess workers’ punctuality, conduct and commitment.

Speaking after the visit, the governor said any worker not found at their duty post by 10 a.m. should be suspended without pay, describing the situation as unacceptable.

He said the inspection revealed a troubling level of absenteeism and warned that the state government would no longer tolerate indiscipline and poor work ethic in the civil service.

While expressing dissatisfaction with workers who were absent, Soludo also acknowledged that some employees were diligent and committed to their duties.

The governor said his findings reflected both positive and negative aspects of the service, but stressed that Anambra could not afford an inefficient workforce.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a disciplined, efficient and results-driven civil service, adding that reforms would be enforced more strictly going forward.

Soludo also noted that the government had invested in improving infrastructure and working conditions at the secretariat, urging workers to reciprocate with dedication and productivity.
