The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four individuals along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State, raising fresh concerns over security in the area.
The incident was made public on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital. According to him, security operatives have already launched a coordinated operation aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending those responsible for the crime.
Ayanlade explained that the abduction took place along the Igbeti–Kishi corridor, a route used frequently by residents, traders, and commuters traveling between communities in the northern part of the state. Although details surrounding the circumstances of the attack were still being gathered, authorities confirmed that four people were taken by the suspected kidnappers.
Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state immediately ordered a large-scale security response. Divisional Police Officers in both the Kishi and Igbeti divisions were directed to mobilize personnel and deploy all available operational resources to track down the suspects and secure the safe release of the victims.
The operation also involves specialized tactical teams working alongside officers from nearby formations. Security operatives have been combing forests, farm settlements, and other surrounding areas where the kidnappers may be hiding. Intelligence gathering efforts have also been intensified as investigators attempt to trace the movements of the abductors and identify possible hideouts.
Authorities say the ongoing rescue mission is being carried out with urgency and determination, with security personnel maintaining a strong presence along key routes and communities in the affected area.
