The Oyo State Government has approved the release of ₦900 million as counterpart funding for the construction of 68 kilometres of roads across the state.
The funding will enable the state to access ₦16,273,711,000 from two international financial institutions — the International Development Association and Agence Française de Développement.
The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, following the state executive council meeting held at the Executive Council Chamber in Ibadan.
According to the commissioner, the council’s decision paves the way for several key road rehabilitation projects. These include the 8.43km Fashola Farm Settlement Road, the 37km Alako/Idi-Iya/Batake/Olowa Farm Settlement and Ijaye roads, as well as the 22km Oloko/Oyo Junction and Ikere roads, among others.
The council also approved the expansion of the Light-Up Oyo State initiative, which has now extended beyond the Ibadan metropolis. A total of ₦2,602,800,000 was approved as operational and maintenance expenditure for the programme in the 2026 fiscal year.
In addition, the executive council approved an upward review of the contract sum for the Oyo State Business Process Automation project. Originally awarded at ₦400 million, the project will now cost ₦578,035,714 due to prevailing economic conditions.
The Business Process Automation initiative, introduced in 2022 under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, is aimed at modernising the civil service through technology. The project is expected to streamline operations, improve record management and accountability across ministries, departments and agencies, enhance the speed and quality of public service delivery, and build technical capacity for long-term system maintenance.
