The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze and cloudy conditions across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.

In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency predicted slight dust haze across the northern region on Monday. However, parts of Borno State and Yobe State are expected to experience moderate dust haze, with horizontal visibility ranging between 2km and 5km.

NiMet said the North Central region would experience slight dust haze throughout the period, while the southern region is expected to have a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine. There are slim chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are anticipated over parts of Ondo State, Ogun State, Lagos State, Edo State, Bayelsa State, Rivers State and Delta State.

On Tuesday, moderate dust haze with visibility between 2km and 5km is expected across the northern region, while slight dust haze will persist over the North Central states. The southern region will remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine, with possible morning thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Thunderstorms with light rains are also forecast later in the day over Lagos, Oyo State, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.

By Wednesday, the agency anticipates thick dust haze across both the northern and North Central regions. The southern region is projected to maintain cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine and chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Thunderstorms with light rains are expected later in the day over Bayelsa, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions, particularly as dust particles remain suspended over the northern, North Central and inland southern states. Individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions were urged to be cautious. The agency also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.

Residents were urged to stay updated with official weather reports from NiMet.
