The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the BAT Foundation Nigeria (BATNF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their program supporting young people in the agricultural sector.

This agreement renews a partnership launched in 2019 as part of BATNF’s Farmers for the Future (F4F) initiative. F4F aims to equip young Nigerian university graduates with the necessary skills, resources, and mentoring to build sustainable agricultural businesses.

According to a press release, the renewed MoU is for three years and underscores both organizations’ commitment to promoting youth-led agricultural entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic inclusion across Nigeria.

Since its inception, this partnership has leveraged the NYSC’s national platform to introduce young Corps members to the agricultural sector as a promising entrepreneurial path that can boost employment and improve food security.

This renewed agreement strengthens an existing, impact-oriented collaboration that provides young people in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with funding, mentoring, and structured support to transform their promising agricultural ideas into sustainable businesses. The project also aims to position agriculture among young college graduates as a modern, forward-looking sector with strong economic potential.

Under the new Memorandum of Understanding, BATNF commits to awarding up to 10 million Naira to six outstanding NYSC graduates with innovative agricultural projects, selected through a competitive process. Support will be provided through a combination of financial and non-financial contributions to ensure effective implementation and long-term sustainability.

The first prize is worth 3 million Naira, the two second prizes are worth 2 million Naira each, and the three third prizes are worth 1 million Naira each.

The selected grantees will participate in a structured development program that includes intensive training, mentoring by agricultural experts, and ongoing evaluation of their projects. An independent implementing partner will oversee the disbursement of funds and monitoring to ensure transparency and measurable impact.

Oludare Odusanya, Executive Director of the BAT Foundation Nigeria, stated regarding the renewed partnership that the agreement strengthens a collaboration that has repeatedly demonstrated the potential of strategic partnerships to create opportunities for young people in the agricultural sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on behalf of the BAT Foundation Nigeria by Oludare Odusanya and the Foundation’s Project Manager, Adetola Oniyelu. The NYSC was represented by the Director of the Division of Skills Acquisition and Business Development (SAED), Kehinde Aremu-Cole, and attorney Christopher Ogar from the NYSC Legal Department.

As part of this renewed collaboration, the NYSC will continue to utilize its orientation camps and digital platforms to raise awareness and mobilize Corps members. The BAT Foundation Nigeria will ensure the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the project throughout its duration.
