The Jigawa State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced that it seized 1,944,389 kilograms of illegal drugs worth approximately 2.8 billion naira in 2025 and convicted 136 drug traffickers statewide.

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026. The agency’s head in Jigawa, Hassan Kabaju, the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Jigawa, announced major breakthroughs in the fight against drug abuse during a press conference at the command’s headquarters in Dutse.

According to Kabaju, the seized drugs included 441,973 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 1,373,886 kilograms of psychotropic substances, and 128,520 kilograms of other drugs.

Kabaju also stated that the agency arrested 577 suspects during the reporting period, including 558 men and 19 women, of whom 136 were charged and convicted.

He stated that the value of the seized drugs, based on current market prices, is approximately 2.8 billion naira, adding that the agency achieved this success through continuous awareness campaigns aimed at curbing the supply and abuse of illegal substances.

The NDLEA director also announced that 552 drug users received counseling during the year, while 59 male drug addicts were referred to the agency’s drug counseling center for treatment and rehabilitation.

As part of the World Drug and Addiction Prevention (WADA) campaign, Kabaju stated that the Drug Enforcement Agency had conducted 39,383 drug prevention information and awareness events throughout Jigawa State, including at high schools, colleges, and other public venues.

Despite these successes, he emphasized that the lack of vehicles, administrative equipment, and operational resources remains a significant challenge for the agency.

Kabaju assured the public that the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) would continue to intensify its efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the 27 municipalities of Jigawa State.

He commended the dedication of the agency’s officers and staff and encouraged the public to continue supporting and participating in the state’s drug enforcement efforts.
