The Rivers State Police Command has invited a former Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, for questioning in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The invitation follows the emergence of a leaked phone conversation reportedly linked to an ongoing police investigation into the alleged assassination plan. Law enforcement sources confirmed that Danagogo was asked to appear before the police to provide clarification regarding his alleged role in the matter.

Although the official police invitation letter did not specify the reason for the summons, security sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that it is connected to a recorded telephone conversation involving Danagogo and a suspect who is currently in police custody.

According to information from within the security apparatus, the conversation allegedly involved discussions about recruiting foreign nationals to carry out an attack on the former Rivers State governor, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The source claimed that the discussion included references to bringing in Israeli nationals to execute the alleged plot.

The same source further alleged that the conversation extended to discussions about securing financial backing for the operation. It was claimed that there was a suggestion to approach the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for funding to support the alleged plan. These allegations, however, remain under investigation and have not been independently verified.

The Rivers State Police Command had earlier arrested a Port Harcourt–based pastor, identified as Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, in connection with the alleged assassination plot. His arrest reportedly followed intelligence-led operations during which security agencies intercepted and monitored communications deemed suspicious.

Investigators believe the intercepted phone call between Gbeneol and Danagogo forms a key part of the inquiry. The call allegedly contained detailed discussions that raised security concerns, prompting swift action by law enforcement authorities.

When contacted for official confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command stated that the matter was still being reviewed and that further details would be provided after verification. The police have not yet released an official statement outlining the full scope of the allegations or the evidence being examined.

Security analysts note that the invitation extended to Danagogo does not in itself amount to a determination of guilt, but rather forms part of routine investigative procedures aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the serious allegations.

The police have assured the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally and in line with the law, adding that all individuals involved will be afforded their constitutional rights. Authorities also warned against speculation and the spread of unverified information, urging the public to await the outcome of the investigation.

As inquiries continue, the case has heightened political tension in Rivers State, given the prominence of the individuals involved and the gravity of the allegations. Further developments are expected as police conclude questioning and assess the credibility of the claims linked to the leaked phone conversation.
