The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has disclosed that she is facing pressure from individuals allegedly linked to the Presidency to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), but has firmly ruled out leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a recent interview, the senator said she is comfortable in the PDP and values the peace and stability she currently enjoys within the party. She stressed that defecting to the ruling party is not part of her plans.
Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that she has encountered similar political pressures at different stages of her career but has remained resolute in making decisions she believes are right for her. Recalling past experiences, she said she was once advised to relocate her political base to Delta State following her marriage, a suggestion she rejected.
She encouraged women aspiring to political leadership to remain steadfast despite the challenges and pressures that may arise, adding that resilience is essential in navigating political spaces.
The senator acknowledged that she was briefly affiliated with the APC at an early stage of her political journey but said she has no reason to return to the party. According to her, attempts to persuade her to defect have come from various quarters, including individuals in the Presidency and some of her colleagues, even shortly before the interview.
“I value my space and my peace. I am comfortable where I am,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to the PDP and her decision not to succumb to pressure or political inducements.
