The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says the Federal Government will continue to rebuild trust in public communication through honest, sincere and purposeful engagement with citizens.
Idris made the remark on Sunday night in Abuja during the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) and Dinner, organised by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in collaboration with The Best Strategic Media.
The minister, who received an award at the event, said the recognition would motivate him, as well as agencies under the ministry, to intensify efforts in delivering quality service to Nigerians. The honour marks his second award in five days.
“This is a country that all of us love. Recognising our contribution to nation-building is heartwarming and will make us do even more for our country,” he said.
Idris reaffirmed his commitment to shaping government communication in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directives, adding that the ministry is focused on restoring credibility in public information dissemination.
“We will continue to restore trust in public communication. That is the major challenge. We also want to fight fake news, disinformation and misinformation because they pose serious dangers to society,” he stated.
According to the minister, combating false information remains a top priority, as misinformation can undermine social harmony and public confidence. He assured that the government will enhance efforts to ensure Nigerians receive accurate and timely information.
Idris also credited the achievements of the ministry to collective teamwork, acknowledging the support of agency heads, directors and staff in repositioning the information sector.
