Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, widely known as FRYO, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the August 8, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The primary election was held on Tuesday in Osogbo under tight security, following days of internal tension within the party.
Announcing the outcome, the chairman of the primary election committee, Humphrey Abba, declared that Adebayo secured 919 votes out of the 957 accredited votes, earning a decisive victory. He noted that 20 votes were voided, largely due to the withdrawal of one of the aspirants, believed to be Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Abba stated:
“The candidate who secured the valid votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes. He is hereby declared elected and returned as the PDP governorship candidate for Osun State.”
Notably, despite publicly resigning from the PDP, Governor Adeleke’s name still appeared on the ballot for the primary. Party officials explained that the process went ahead according to established procedures and that only accredited delegates were allowed to vote.
Adeleke had earlier confirmed his resignation in a letter dated November 4, 2025, submitted to his ward leadership.
While Osun PDP chairman Sunday Bisi had announced a postponement of the primary due to the national leadership crisis, a faction of the party proceeded with the exercise in Osogbo on Tuesday.
