The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, on Tuesday marked his 20th coronation anniversary with a colourful ceremony that featured the installation of new chiefs.
Among the title recipients was Chief Samuel Oluwadairo, who was conferred with the prestigious title of Ogboye of Egbaland. The palace described the title as one of the highest-ranking Egba traditional chieftaincy positions, approved by the state government, and one that grants its holder a seat on the Alake-in-Council, which helps administer the affairs of the Egba Kingdom. His wife, Chief Regina Oluwadairo, was also installed as the new Erelu-Ogboye of Egbaland.
The anniversary event drew a large gathering that included Egba Obas, titled chiefs, government officials, politicians, and prominent business figures.
While performing the installation, Oba Gbadebo prayed for divine wisdom and clarity for the new chiefs and urged them to demonstrate integrity and exemplary leadership in their roles.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Oluwadairo expressed deep gratitude to the Alake for considering him worthy of the honour, noting that the Ogboye title carries significant responsibilities. He pledged to work toward fostering peace, unity, and economic development across Egbaland.
“I am honoured and excited to be installed as the new Ogboye of Egbaland. This is a call to service,” he said, adding that he would initiate empowerment projects to support the community.
Chief Regina Oluwadairo also expressed joy at her installation, promising to support her husband while continuing her previous role as Seriki Iya-Abiye of Egbaland to improve the welfare of children in the community.
