The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 85 underage candidates have successfully completed its screening process for exceptional admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
JAMB’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the candidates, all younger than 16 years as of September 2025, were cleared after a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation exercise.
“After meticulous evaluation, 85 candidates who are adjudged to be qualified have been duly notified to proceed to their respective institutions to complete the admission process and print their individual JAMB admission letters,” the statement read.
Benjamin added that the exceptional admission policy aligns with global best practices, where such cases are treated as rare exceptions rather than the norm.
According to JAMB, out of the 2,031,133 applicants who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 41,027 sought consideration under the special underage category. Of these, 599 scored above the 80 per cent threshold and underwent further verification of their certificates and post-UTME results.
Following interviews and final screening, 85 candidates were found to have met the criteria for exceptional admission.
The board also advised any of the 182 finalists who missed the final interview to submit a formal request via the JAMB Support Ticketing System under the category titled “2025 Underage Complaint.”
JAMB further gave candidates who scored 320 and above in the UTME but failed to upload their O’Level results two days to do so — not later than Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency, inclusiveness, and academic integrity in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
