A fire broke out on Thursday evening at a solar and electrical company located in the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, causing significant damage. The blaze affected the training office of Sun Watt’s Solar and Electrical Company, situated on the upper floor of the Salinsile commercial building.
The incident, which occurred around 6:12 p.m., destroyed several electrical appliances and equipment, reportedly worth millions of naira. However, no casualties were recorded.
Emergency responders from the state fire service arrived swiftly at the scene and were able to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. The fire was eventually brought under control, saving nearby properties and other offices housed in the building.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are currently ongoing to uncover what triggered the outbreak.
Authorities have urged residents and business owners to take fire safety precautions seriously, including the use of fire extinguishers and timely reporting of incidents. The public has also been encouraged to utilize emergency hotlines in the event of any fire-related emergencies.
This incident adds to the growing list of fire outbreaks in Ibadan in recent years. Notable among them are the 2020 Dugbe market inferno and the 2023 Bodija plank market fire, both of which resulted in heavy financial losses and highlighted the urgent need for improved fire safety infrastructure across the city.
