Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has praised five substitutes introduced by manager Michael Carrick during the club’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Schmeichel singled out Youri Tielemans, Lisandro Martínez, Shea Lacey, Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount, saying their introduction made a difference in the encounter.
Manchester United recovered from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Italian side, with Bruno Fernandes scoring once and Matheus Cunha netting twice.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Schmeichel contrasted the impact of the substitutions against Roma with those made during United’s previous match against Chelsea, which he said had failed to influence the game.
He said Carrick’s changes against Roma had a positive impact on the team’s performance.
Manchester United will next face Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend.
