Lawyers in Osun State have called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to urgently rehabilitate deteriorating court buildings across the state, warning that their poor condition is disrupting judicial proceedings and hindering access to justice.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), through its five branches in Osogbo, Ikirun, Iwo, Ile-Ife and Ilesa, made the appeal in a letter dated October 29, 2026, and received at the Governor’s Office on November 2.

The association identified leaking roofs, damaged ceilings, inadequate seating and other infrastructural deficiencies as major challenges affecting court operations. It said rainwater entering some courtrooms had forced proceedings to be interrupted or suspended, leading to avoidable adjournments and delays.

The lawyers also expressed concern about water leakage in the office of the Chief Judge and chambers of other judicial officers, warning that court records, official documents, furniture and electronic equipment were exposed to damage.

They urged the state government to conduct a comprehensive assessment of facilities across the High Court, Customary Court of Appeal, Magistrates’ Courts and District Customary Courts, particularly in Osogbo, Ikirun, Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Iwo and Ede.

Beyond structural repairs, the NBA called for the provision of modern facilities, including electronic case management systems, digital recording devices and computers, as well as adequate funding for maintenance and personnel training.

The association further recommended urgent repairs to buildings posing safety risks and urged the government to involve the judiciary and NBA in identifying needs, setting priorities and monitoring improvements, while respecting judicial independence.

The letter was signed by the chairmen of the five NBA branches: Maruf Adediran, Abdulkareem Azeez, Emmanuel Gbadegesin, Olawoye Festus and Adefunso Esan.
