Suspected terrorists have abducted 14 students of an Islamic school in Pandogari, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, when the students were helping their Islamic teacher, popularly known as Mallam, harvest maize on his farm in Tungan-Bako village. The attackers reportedly invaded the farm and abducted the students alongside their teacher.
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Monday, clarifying that 14 students were abducted, contrary to earlier reports suggesting that 50 persons were kidnapped.
Abiodun said a joint security team had commenced rescue operations to secure the release of the victims, adding that further developments would be communicated.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Vatsa, spokesperson for the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate, condemned Governor Mohammed Bago over the security situation in the state. He accused the government of failing to take adequate measures to protect residents, alleging that security agencies lacked operational vehicles and other necessary equipment to tackle the attacks.
