The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast three days of dust haze and thunderstorms across different parts of the country from Friday to Sunday.

In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Thursday, the agency predicted slight dust haze over most parts of the North, with moderate haze expected in Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi and Kaduna states.

For Friday, NiMet forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Taraba State in the afternoon or evening.

In the North-Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected, while parts of Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory and Benue State may experience isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall later in the day.

The agency also predicted cloudy conditions across the southern region, with light rainfall expected over parts of Delta and Bayelsa states in the morning.

Later on Friday, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti states, as well as the South-East and South-South regions.

Saturday Forecast

According to NiMet, sunny and hazy conditions will prevail across the northern region throughout Saturday.

The North-Central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, while isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall may occur over parts of Kogi, Kwara and Benue states in the afternoon or evening.

In the South, cloudy skies are expected during the morning, followed by thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall across most areas later in the day.

Sunday Forecast

For Sunday, the agency predicted slight dust haze over most parts of the North throughout the forecast period.

Sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected across the North-Central region, while the southern region will experience cloudy conditions in the morning.

NiMet also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Imo, Abia and Anambra states, with light rainfall expected over parts of the South-West and South-South regions later in the day.

NiMet Issues Safety Advisory

The agency advised Nigerians to take precautions against suspended dust particles, particularly people living with asthma and other respiratory conditions.

It warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms and urged residents to secure loose objects to prevent them from being blown away.

NiMet also advised residents to avoid standing under tall trees during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of injuries from falling branches or damaged trees.

The agency further urged members of the public to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support effective flight planning.

The agency encouraged residents to stay informed by following its weather updates.
