The late leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, will be buried on December 17, 2026, according to burial arrangements announced by his family.
Fasoranti, who died at his residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, at the age of 100, will be honoured with a Christian wake-keeping service on Wednesday, December 16, at his residence within the Omolere Nursery and Primary School compound, Akure.
In a statement issued on behalf of the family by Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, the funeral service and interment will take place on Thursday, December 17, at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure. A reception will follow at his residence, while an outing and thanksgiving service is scheduled for Sunday, December 20, at the same cathedral.
Taiwo Fasoranti, the deceased’s son and Secretary to the Ondo State Government, described his father as a great man whose legacy of firmness, resilience, hard work and love would be difficult to match. He said the family had chosen to celebrate his life and legacy, noting that the centenarian lived a fulfilled life and had prepared them for his eventual departure.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had visited the family to offer his condolences.
The Southern Senators’ Forum and the South-West Caucus of the House of Representatives also mourned the elder statesman, describing him as a selfless leader who stood for unity, justice and fairness.
The lawmakers said Fasoranti’s death had created a vacuum in Yoruba leadership, while acknowledging his contributions to the socio-political development of the Yoruba nation and Nigeria.
