Nigeria’s passport ranking has fallen to 181st in the latest IziVisa Passport Ranking Index, down from 90th position in July 2026, amid a reported decline in the number of destinations Nigerians can visit without obtaining a visa in advance.
According to data published by IziVisa, Nigerian passport holders can travel to 24 countries visa-free, obtain visas on arrival in 16 countries, and access 43 countries through electronic visas. The latest figures represent a reduction from the 44 visa-free destinations recorded in July.
IziVisa ranks passports based on the number of destinations holders can access without securing a visa beforehand, while also considering visa-on-arrival and electronic visa options in its assessment of international mobility.
The United Arab Emirates leads the latest ranking, with access to 185 destinations through visa-free entry, visas on arrival or electronic visas. Switzerland occupies second position, while Luxembourg, Malta, Denmark, Spain and Finland also feature among the leading passports.
Separately, the July 2026 Henley Passport Index ranked Nigeria 90th out of 199 passports, with access to 44 destinations without a prior visa. However, the IziVisa and Henley indices use different methodologies and coverage, meaning their rankings are not directly comparable.
