Former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, has declared support for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on aggrieved party members to unite for the party’s success.
Folarin made the declaration on Monday while addressing supporters who welcomed him to Ibadan. He also raised Alli’s hand in a show of support, signalling a move towards reconciliation within the party following disagreements over the governorship primary.
The former Senate Leader had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the process that produced Alli as the APC candidate, calling for a fresh primary. He said his grievances were understandable, noting that he had invested 26 years in pursuing his governorship ambition.
However, Folarin urged party members to set aside their differences and work for all APC candidates in the state. He said his appointment as coordinator of the Oyo State Presidential Campaign Council required him to support the party’s candidates, including Alli.
He also called on Alli and other party leaders to accommodate aggrieved members and ensure that those who contributed to the party’s success were recognised. Folarin stressed the need to strengthen reconciliation efforts, noting that little time remained before the elections.
He further urged the APC to improve on the votes secured by President Bola Tinubu in Oyo State during the 2023 presidential election and work towards victory in the 2027 governorship and legislative polls.
