Manchester United have ruled out the possibility of sacking their Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, despite reported frustration among senior players over the club’s transfer activity.
The development follows defender Lisandro Martinez’s outspoken criticism of the club’s lack of investment during the summer transfer window after Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Martinez reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction with the club’s recruitment decisions, singling out Wilcox for criticism over the team’s transfer dealings. The Argentine’s comments have reportedly received support from some senior members of the Manchester United squad, who share concerns about the club’s failure to strengthen the team sufficiently during the summer.
However, according to The Times, Wilcox’s position is not under threat, as minority co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to hold him in high regard. Ratcliffe, who was present in Madrid for the Champions League fixture, is said to remain supportive of the football director despite the reported discontent among some first-team players.
The report indicates that, although concerns remain within the squad over the club’s recruitment strategy, Manchester United have no immediate plans to remove Wilcox from his position. His future at the club therefore appears secure despite the criticism surrounding the team’s transfer activities.
