Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged the Federal and state governments to prioritise policies that boost local production, support businesses and create jobs to ease the rising cost of living.
Adeleke made the call on Tuesday in Ilesa during the second Distinguished Public Lecture Series of the University of Ilesa. He was represented by the state Commissioner for Finance, Olusola Ogungbile.
The governor stressed that public funds must be managed responsibly, adding that borrowing should be directed towards development projects that improve citizens’ welfare. He also warned that insecurity on farms, roads and in markets could undermine production, investment and economic growth.
In her lecture, the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Queensley Seghosime, said economic reforms must translate into improved living standards for Nigerians and greater confidence for businesses.
Seghosime, represented by ICAN’s First Deputy Vice President, Dr Oye Akinsulire, called for increased agricultural productivity, improved energy supply, better transportation and storage facilities, as well as stronger domestic production to address inflation and build economic resilience.
