The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the display of the preliminary voter register and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The seven-day exercise, running from October 9 to 15, will enable registered voters to verify their details, submit claims and objections, and collect PVCs from the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration conducted between August and December 2025.
In Plateau State, the exercise is taking place across all 207 Registration Areas from 9am to 3pm daily. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Sam Egwu, urged voters to check their names, photographs, dates of birth and polling units to ensure the accuracy of the register.
Similarly, Sokoto State REC, Umar Garba, said the exercise would take place at Registration Area centres, after which PVC collection would continue at INEC offices across the state’s 23 local government areas. He clarified that cards relating to lost or damaged PVCs, transfers, updates and registrations from the second and third phases of the exercise were not yet available.
Garba also said INEC was working with security agencies to determine how internally displaced persons in Sokoto could participate in the 2027 elections, particularly those residing in officially recognised camps.
