FG Pays Eight Months’ Allowance Arrears to Varsity Workers

The Federal Government has released eight months’ arrears of the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) owed to non-academic workers in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The allowance covers the period from January to August 2026. Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced the release on Wednesday, saying the payment was aimed at addressing workers’ welfare concerns and promoting stability in the tertiary education sector.

Alausa said the payment reflects the government’s commitment to staff welfare and industrial harmony, while assuring that the ministry would continue consultations with relevant unions and stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues and minimise disruptions to academic activities.
