Nigeria Rises Four Places in Bloomberg Investment Ranking

Nigeria has emerged as the biggest climber among major African economies in Bloomberg Economics’ 2026 Investment Risk-O-Meter, rising four places to eighth position among 19 African economies.

Bloomberg attributed the improvement to gains in economic strength, fiscal strength and external vulnerability. Nigeria moved ahead of Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Namibia, while Mauritius ranked first and South Africa dropped one place.

The improved ranking comes amid Federal Government economic reforms, including petrol subsidy removal, foreign exchange market liberalisation and electricity tariff changes. Although the measures have increased pressure on households and businesses, Bloomberg said they are increasingly viewed by investors as steps towards greater macroeconomic stability and an improved investment environment.
