Military court postpones ruling in alleged coup plot trial

The General Court Martial hearing the alleged coup plot case involving some military officers has postponed its ruling for the fourth time.

The ruling, initially scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, has been moved to Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Scorpion Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja. The military did not give a reason for the postponement.

The ruling concerns the admissibility of statements allegedly obtained from some of the accused officers. Defence lawyers have challenged the statements, alleging that the officers were coerced into making or reproducing them, while the prosecution maintains that they were made voluntarily. The court’s decision will determine whether the disputed statements can be used as evidence in the ongoing trial.
