FG plans 24-hour power zones in major cities

The Federal Government has begun discussions with electricity distribution companies on plans to establish Energy Zones that could provide 24-hour electricity to homes, businesses and industries in major demand centres.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, held a meeting with selected distribution companies on the proposed zones covering the Lagos axis, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano and Enugu-Port Harcourt corridors.

The initiative is aimed at addressing distribution challenges and ensuring that available electricity is delivered more reliably to consumers, particularly commercial and industrial users. The government has not yet announced a timeline or specific infrastructure requirements for implementing the proposed zones.
