Nine Miners Die as Flood Hits Mining Pit in Bauchi

At least nine miners have died after heavy rainfall flooded a mining pit at Zurfi Mining Company in Nahuta village, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident occurred on September 26 while contracted miners were working at the site. The flood trapped several workers underground, while one miner was reportedly electrocuted during the incident.

Police and local vigilantes mounted rescue operations, while the mining company deployed water pumps to drain the pit. Eight additional victims were later recovered and pronounced dead at General Hospital Kashere.
