The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has asked the Presidency to explain President Bola Tinubu’s continued absence from Nigeria, six days after his initially announced three-week vacation ended.
In a statement, the council called for clarification on Tinubu’s whereabouts, the reason for the extended stay abroad and the constitutional arrangements governing the country during his absence. It also questioned the reported decision for Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to continue representing the President at official engagements.
The Presidency, however, said Tinubu was on a working vacation and continued to direct government affairs from abroad. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the President had been meeting investors in France and did not need to be physically present in Abuja to perform his duties.
Kano State has commenced a diphtheria immunisation exercise targeting children in five local government areas of the state. The exercise is aimed at protecting children against diphtheria and strengthening efforts to prevent the spread of the disease in affected communities. Health authorities urged parents and caregivers in the targeted areas to make their children available for the vaccination exercise.
