Two arrested over alleged transformer vandalism in Anambra

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has confirmed the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the vandalisation of a transformer at the Urunkpuke Distribution Substation in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The suspects, identified as Nonso Okolodile and Emeka Onyeugwo, were arrested by members of the Nimo Vigilante Group following a report from the company.

The suspects were handed over to the police and are being held at the Nimo Divisional Police Station for preliminary investigation. Tools and parts of the vandalised transformer were also recovered.

FirstPower said 73 major cases of vandalism of electricity infrastructure had been recorded across Anambra between January and September, affecting electricity supply and increasing the company’s operational costs.

The company urged residents and community leaders to report suspicious activities around transformers, substations, poles, cables and other electricity installations to the authorities.
