PETROAN Orders Nationwide Checks of Fuel Meters

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has directed its members nationwide to inspect their fuel dispensing meters following a warning by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) over under-dispensing of petrol.

PETROAN National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, said the directive followed an emergency meeting of the association’s National Executive Council.

He said prolonged use could cause dispensing equipment to malfunction, resulting in customers receiving less or more fuel than they paid for.

Gillis-Harry urged motorists to monitor fuel meters while buying petrol and request receipts for their purchases.

The NMDPRA had warned that filling stations found under-dispensing petroleum products could face sanctions, including the withdrawal of their operating licences.

PETROAN said it was working with relevant regulators to ensure fuel dispensing meters remain accurate and functional.
