The National Assembly has clarified that only the Constitution Alteration Bill seeking to establish State Police Services has been transmitted to the 36 state Houses of Assembly.

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, said on Tuesday that reports suggesting all proposed constitutional amendment bills had been sent to the states were incorrect.

He explained that the State Police Bill was prioritised in response to public concerns over security and policing.

According to the National Assembly, other constitutional amendment bills will be transmitted to the state legislatures after they are passed in identical form by both chambers, in line with the constitutional amendment process.
