Many Nigerians Still Lack Reliable Electricity – Power Minister

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has acknowledged that many Nigerians are still without reliable electricity despite ongoing efforts to improve power supply across the country.

Tegbe, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Federal Government had spent the past three months addressing longstanding challenges in the power sector.

He cited the restoration of the 375-megawatt Alaoji power plant after three years offline, improvements in transmission capacity and the deployment of more than 350,000 electricity meters.

The minister, however, admitted that the measures had not yet translated into reliable electricity for many Nigerians.

He said there was no plan to increase electricity tariffs, adding that the government remained focused on improving grid stability, supply reliability and billing accuracy.

Tegbe said reforms in the power sector would require sustained efforts rather than quick solutions.
