Police Barracks Reconstruction Requires Urgent Action

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has called attention to the poor condition of police barracks during an inspection of housing projects under reconstruction in Lagos.

About 21 barracks and housing projects were inspected, with at least 1,000 housing units expected to be completed by February 2027 through collaboration between the Lagos State Government and private developers.

The condition of police accommodation remains a concern in many parts of the country, with officers and their families facing problems including overcrowding, poor sanitation, inadequate water supply and deteriorating buildings.

The reconstruction of police barracks is therefore being highlighted as part of efforts to improve the welfare and working conditions of police personnel.

The Federal Government is also rehabilitating 13 police training colleges across the country, while authorities are exploring partnerships with private developers to provide additional housing for officers.

The Lagos projects are expected to serve as part of a broader effort to improve police accommodation nationwide.
