The Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Ayo Ajana, has distributed educational materials to 1,000 indigent pupils as part of his Back-to-School initiative.

The materials, distributed to pupils from 55 public primary schools, include 30,000 exercise books and 1,000 school bags.

Speaking during the distribution at St Mary’s Catholic Mega Primary School, Oka Akoko, Ajana said the initiative was aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and encouraging children to remain in school.

He described the programme as an investment in the future of children and pledged that his administration would continue to support education, social welfare, agriculture, and youth and women empowerment.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Scholarship, Samad Orijeminiyi, commended the initiative, saying such interventions could help reduce the number of out-of-school children and make education more attractive to young people.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers also praised the council chairman for prioritising education and supporting families in the local government.
