Residents of Basirka community in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State have held a three-day special prayer for rainfall following a prolonged dry spell that has affected farming activities.

The prayers began on Saturday and continued through Monday at the community’s Eid ground, with residents also observing a voluntary fast on Monday.

The special prayer, known as Salatul Istisqa, was organised as crops began to wither due to poor rainfall.

The Chief Imam of Basirka, Sheikh Sanunu Basirka, who led Monday’s prayer, urged residents to seek forgiveness, give charity and intensify prayers for rainfall.

Farmers in the community said the lack of rain was affecting crops such as maize and millet and raising concerns about the farming season.

Residents called for beneficial rainfall to save their farms and provide water for livestock.
